Mahers Landing

From Ramps

Jump to: navigation, search

Location: About 5 Km east of Inverloch, just off the Inverloch - Venus Bay Road, Gippsland, Victoria Australia

Less exposed to swell and current than the ramp in Inverloch town but has no jetty and difficult at low tide, as you have to back out 20 metres or so to get any depth of water. Fine at high tide and a few hours either side.

If the tide is running in, there is some danger of finishing up on the rocks to the east of the ramp. The west side is fine - a nice beach you can run up on to wait if the ramp is busy.

There is a flashing red beacon at the landing that makes it easy to find at night.

Anderson's inlet is shallow and the channels are constantly changing; you have to keep a constant watch to prevent grounding.

Maher's Landing's principal virtue is it's free, and there are less gawkers than in the town to jeer when you mess things up!
