Went to the LUV meeting last night with Dad, because there was a talk about QCAD. In the end, the QCAD talk wasn't so good, though it did point out that the Debian version is old, and that the new version looks very different to the one Dad tried last time he looked at QCAD.
The RenderMan talk that followed, though, was very good: at a level accessible to the audience, it managed to pack in a lot of information, tidbits and ideas. Some of it I'd known but never seen presented so clearly (eg the distinction between geometry-oriented and image-oriented approaches), some I hadn't but it was presented well enough that I could follow anyway. Good, polished talk.
