Put together a quick script for Dad yesterday - takes all the .jpg files in a directory and normalizes the colour range. Dad had a bunch of images taken underwater with the wrong white balance... It seems to do a pretty good job on all underwater images, actually - and it's much quicker than fiddling with them individually in the GIMP.
To the extent it's copyrightable, feel free to use it under the GPL.
Update 23 June 2004: new version (0.2), which cuts off only 0.1 percent off each end histogram rather than the default 1% and 2%, so it's kinder.
We also now have a special version for 10m under the sea and no flash - there's so little red down there that stretching it to full range results in ridiculous colours. Instead, it just multiplies the red by about 2.5, while the green and blue are done as normal.
