If I want to make a clone of Facebook, what should I do differently? What should I do better, and what should I make sure to keep?
Also, what should I call it?

My wife and I were just talking about the good and bad parts of MySpace and Facebook. All of our friends are on Facebook, but we both like MySpace much better.
We said that Facebook is good because of the Apps that force you to communicate with your friends more often. Such as, superpoke or pillowfight.
We both wish that Facebook was more customizable. It is fun to see what your friends do with their MySpace pages, and see what music they have. It is almost like seeing their personality just by seeing their page.
Just the layout of Facebook is not quite as friendly.
I am not one to talk about design, as I cannot even match my socks, but I thought since I just had this discussion I would throw in my two cents.

Agreed on the apps like superpoke — definitely must have those!
For the customisation and layout, I'm planning to make it a normal application, so that'll come straight from the user interface guidelines — you'll theme it along with the rest of your desktop. I'll have to make sure that it still allows the personality to come through on the friends' pages, though…
